Faith Life Groups... A Community of Life
I just completed an 11 week bible study about the life of the apostle Paul written by Beth Moore. What an amazing man. I am in awe of his unrelenting devotion to God and totally encouraged by the fact that he was a mere human being like me. Flesh and blood. An ordinary man living an extraordinary life.
I really want to zero in on a single topic I came across in my study.
Week: 8
Day: 4
Title: Brothers Among Strangers
Scripture: "There we found some brothers who invited us to spend a week with them. And so we came to Rome" (Acts 28:14)
Brothers. Brotherhood. Something so very important to Paul. Fellowship was something Paul not only desired, he knew he needed it. To be a part of a brotherhood, a community of believers was essential to his well being. This was a man on a mission. Literally! Travelling from city to city. Delivering the gospel to those in need of hearing it. It was a hard life, too. He endured much suffering. Exhaustion. Rejection. Persecution. The only place he had to call home, was the homes of his brothers and sisters in Christ. He needed time with friends. People who shared his faith and passion. A place of safety, respite, laughter. A place to give and receive encouragement. To pray with and be prayed for. Brotherhood. Fellowship. Community.
An excerpt from Beth Moore's study:
"How important was brotherhood in Christ to the apostle Paul? Scripture refers to a natural sibling of Paul's only once, yet I counted 99 times in his Epistles when the apostle referred to other Christians as brothers. The original Greek word for brothers is adelphos. In reference to fellow believers in Christ the term 'came to designate a fellowship of love equivalent to or bringing with it a community of life'. As Paul approached Rome, God knew he needed a 'fellowship of love' or 'a community of life'. Paul's need was not unique. People today are still desperate for a sense of community... God recognizes man's need for community and desires to meet the need through His church. I'm not talking about building a church or a denomination. I'm referring to the body of believers God organized to offer a community of life."
So lets bring this into the 21st century. Faith Life Groups = a community of life. Brotherhood (or in our case, sisterhood!) is still important in this present day! Man still has the need for it and God meets it the very same way as he did in the early church. He doesn't change His mind about what we need as his children and how he meets that need.
Take advantage of what God is offering you.
Join a fellowship of love...

Random-ness
1- Cleaning out my bookshelves for our Book Exchange and Fellowship night next Saturday. I'm pretty sure I could open up a christian bookstore with all the books in this house! Shouldn't I be brilliant considering all the books I own lol??!!
2- Did not clean my house today as planned. Well, I did scrub my shower! There's always tomorrow... or next weekend ;)
3- Sad that we are leaving our March theme of "Life in Him" (Galatians 2:20). So much more to learn! But super excited for April's theme (see it over to the right). According to Mr. James, wisdom is being a peacemaker, and righteousness flourishes in peace. Now my curiosity is up... must investigate this more. Remember sisters, love the Lord with your mind!
4- New things I love... Bare Minerals foundation, Ulta brand Brilliant Color Lip Gloss and Shellac manicures (2 weeks no chipping!)
5- Bought 2 new worship CD's today:
God be Praised by Gateway Worship
Here for You from the 2011 Passion Conference
I will give you a review after listening to them. Did you know I am a closet worship leader? I may have the worst singing voice man has ever heard, and no musical talent at all. But there is a Darlene Zschech inside of me dying to get out. Look out Hillsong. Look out Tracy Karriem.
If the Lord desires to manifest himself via a miracle, you two may be out of a job!
Well sisters, I hope you all come to our Book Exchange next weekend. I sure love talking to you via blog. But it is much better seeing your sweet faces in person... nothing like girl time!!

Better Than Oprah
Upcoming event for Women of Faith!
On Saturday, April 9th @ 6:30 pm we will be meeting in the Step Up room for our Book Exchange and Fellowship night.
Here's the plan:
Go through your book shelves and find those books you are done with that are only collecting dust. Bring them to the Book Exchange for someone else to enjoy! Acceptable books would be anything Christian, inspirational, cookbooks or home and garden. Things to not acceptable would be a Harlequin romance and the like (that goes without sayin, right?? LOL) You can start bringing them to the church NOW. There will be a box near the nursery to leave them in.
For a $5 donation, fill a grocery bag with new books... well new to you!! The money collected will go to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Melvindale (they could really use it right now).
If everyone could bring some junk food to pass, that would be great. I will provide beverages. We will also play some board games, maybe watch a comedy DVD, just hang out and have fun!
We have never done this before. Sounds fun, huh?
It will be better than Oprah's book club!!

Preach it!
Favorite quote from this weeks homework in the Beth Moore bible study I am currently doing...
"We are challenged to overcome prejudices on many levels, certainly not just race. Economics divide. Denominations divide. Ministries divide. Differences will always exist, but division doesn't always have to result".
Preach it Beth!

Spring Ahead
This weekend is Daylight Savings. We "spring ahead" our clocks and loose an hour of sleep. But ohhh what
a small price to pay for what lies ahead! Longer days, sunnier skies, green grass and flowers. No more boots and mittens, it's time for pedicure's and flip flops! Well, almost!
The word of God says He changes times and seasons. Not just in nature, but in our lives as well. Today I feel a mix of emotions as seasons change around me. Not just winter to spring. But changes in life. In these last few weeks I have friends celebrating their 20 year wedding anniversary, and friends contemplating ending their union. I have a friend who got the biopsy report that showed no cancer. And I went to a funeral. I spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon in my nice house with a dear friend. We laughed and ate brownies while people in Japan are suffering. Seasons.
There is a time and a purpose for everything. For seasons in nature, and seasons in life. We won't always know what is to come, but we do know that God is there. In the midst of every change in life, and none of it is a surprise to Him! We put our hope in Him, he is the anchor for our soul!
My hope is that we will share together the seasons of our lives. Sisters in Christ, fully devoted to Him. Join me on this journey in life. Lets spring ahead together!
